My female dog is fixed. However, every now and then she smells kind of fishy. Why is that?

your dog might be smelling fishy because her anal glands might be full already. when dogs poop some of their poop gets stuck in their anal glands. when this gets full, it gives off a foul, fishy odor. the anal gland must be emptied once in a while to get rid of the fishy smell. you can have this done by taking your dog to a local pet store for a bath. they will automatically pop the anal gland for you. hope this helps.

I think it's so funny that you asked this question because it's a joke between my daughter and I. We call our dogs fish butt. This happens when they poop. We are able to wipe our bottoms, but dogs cannot. Have you ever noticed right after they go there is this clear liquid that comes out? That is what smells. It has a fishy smell for sure. But, it cleanses their behinds after they go.

Just because she is fixed doesnt mean she wont ovulate... Being fixed just means she cant conceive because her tubes have been tied or cauterized and cut... Trust me they didnt do an hysterectomy when they spaded her, thats to expensive, she just got her tubes tied... So she can still go in heat and get her freak on but she can't conceive any pups...
