I am not spreading or preaching fear, only awareness. I could care less how these people 'think' . If someone that has been charged AND convicted of rape or molesting children moved in beside me I;d want to know and not enough people know about this website.

Dear, I work as a counselor of high risk youth, including sex offenders. I preach the benefits of protecting yourself along with having the knowledge about where sex offenders are. As long as parents know where a sex offender lives, they have a tool by which they can protect their children. I believe that you shouldn't teach fear, with regard to sex offenders but that a parent should teach responsibility and openness in talking about sex offenders to their children. I don't know how old you are but I feel that you should talk about the sex offenders, with people you live with, and have strategies in mind if something happens and a willing openness to talk about anything that might happen so that no "secrets" are kept.
Remember, there is really no good reason an adult and a child should ever have a secret. Keep communication lines open and don't judge anything until you know the whole story. If a child is expressing difficulty with someone, allow them the freedom to say what they need to say without fear of consequences for what they say. It will help them in the long run.
So I am not surprised at how many S. O. are around me. I do work with them and I do understand a large part of their thinking. Keep your wits about you and you will do fine.

Through looking at the website that you provided I found out that I live only 2 miles from a sex offender. That is only one, the next one lives 3 miles away, along with the third one. And I bet that there are more but just not listed. Thanks for your website. I have 7 grandchildren and believe me, these people would not want to mess with their Grandmother or their Grandfather. There is nothing wrong with keeping youself aware of what is going on in your neighborhood.

In doing this I just found out that I was a friend of a child molester and did not even know it. It was not a close friendship by any means just an aquantance. Sorta I knew him through one of my best friends friend. Was I surprised actually to be quite honest with you yes I was but not histerically surprised. Actually there is a record of 4 people within 15 miles of me. Thank goodness I carry pepperspray and have no children.
Thank you for making me aware of who lives in my community. KUDOS to you.

The closest rapist lives .09 miles from my house. Gee, now I CAN sleep better at night.
PS
Red1, Telling people that they should teach their children not to fear sex offenders is ridiculous. They are criminals who hurt children! Just because you "understand" their motives and work with them does not make them less dangerous to the public.

well damn.... i live in Australia so that web site didn't help me!

i think it is a good idea for people to know when a registered sex offeneder lives near there home. for their own protection and their childerens.

wether or not this offeneder ever attacks again, wether or not they are murderers thiefs or rapists, or just plain nice & good people. everyone deserves to know about the community they live in.
but it should also be thier choice to know or not, so this sort of information should be made available everywhere.
i do know i live about 5 minutes drive from a man who sexually abused my cousin, & and i have seen him in the same shoping centre i use to buy my groceries and i just want to run him down in my car. but that would make me almost as bad as he is!!!!

There is one right across the street 3 counts of sodomy.I found this out myself, the week after Shasta was found, the police did come tell us that there was a sex offender that was likely to re-offend living there,(live in Coeur dAlene also) he had been living there almost 2 years already.I 've since found out that it is a house that parolees live after prison.

There is actually one right across the street, he was not listed as a rapist or a child abuser but the lesser of the three. None of us could believe it he is in his 80's and is just a nice old guy. But obviously something happened

There's two on my street. The closet is three houses away. He's an old man that hardly ever comes out.

There is another catagory , far more dangerous. What about clandestine rapists, not declared anywhere, but are existing among relatives & close family friends ?
