I think I am suffering from depression. My therapist wants to prescribe me some pills. I have researched Paxil but I dont want to gain weight, that would make me feel even worse than I do already. What works without crazy side effects? Should I try to stay drug free and use natural stuff? What works?

Not all people gain wieght!
I had to use CELEXA for about a year and had no side effects at all!
Try to exercise a little more and think of little things that you have to be thankful for! Don't be scared of pills-as long as you truely need them!

BEST OF LUCK!

Mind over matter if you can do it. If the depression gets worse, you may have to take medicine to make it through it. Counseling may help before medication. Try to explore to see what makes you depressed. Unrelieved stress usually is the reason you finally become depressed. See if you can alleviate some pressure you may be having. I you don't have the power to do anything about a certain situation, then let it go from your thoughts. Exercise daily to work off the stress. Eat well balanced meals--don't skip meals.

I know someone who was on some meds for depression and it just made her worse - dependent on them. Her basic problem was a refusal to deal with certain problems in her life.

I don't know if the reason for ur depression is strictly hormonal, or becoz u've got issues to deal with. If its the latter, plz don't take meds, they won't make ur problems go away. Regular exercise (preferably outdoors) releases good hormones....should help u feel better. Tcare.

I would recommend finding a good doctor and trying meds to see which one works for you. Not all meds work the same for everyone. I am not a fan of natural cures for depression as they did nto work for me. they might work for you, but research side effects first.
Also, decide if therapy might be a help. There are a lot of different kinds of therapy and one might be right for you.
