There is no hard and fast rule because I believe love crosses all boundaries. However, and this is a BIG HOWEVER there are some pretty good general rules. Coming from personal experience if you are 30 something and try to be serious with a woman in her early twenties, good luck.
Women in this culture at that age are more into experiencing life and self actualizing than they are into forever love. They may say different, but as a vast vast general the other side of them will ache to come out and do a serious whop a s s on your heart.
Don't do it lad. Run for the hills else the lassie will eat your heart like it was haggis.
If you want sagely advice I suggest going for women no earlier than her mid twenties and the closer to thirty the better. These women are much more ready to settle down.
If you just want a fling that is another story but I'd say leave them along to enjoy their youth.

I think the thing of most importance is that you are at the same stage of life. If you are both childless and never married, currently looking to settle down, marry, and have children, then the age gap is not too wide. The same age gap WOULD be a problem if she wants those things but he has already been there, done that and is divorced with 3 kids. The gap is also too wide if he wants to settle down but she feels too young and wants to party and see the world. So it should be based on the couple's past experiences and current goals, vs. a number.

I think that difference is even just perfect, and the chance for a happy relationship is higher than any others. Because guys at 30-34 are normally want to set up a firm family, and at this age, they generally have appropiate conditions for family in hand. and at this age, their mental on dating is much more serious. Its not like young guys who still want to play around for fun with their relationships. and for dating or married, the guy with 6-7 years older than the girl is just PERFECT.
that's is the general fact, but you still have to examine the guy
for long long time to really know his personality before having any serious decision.

well, it says here that the average female is 4 years and 1/4 years younger than a male partner. so i guess like 5 years if your in your 30s or around there and like 3 years if your a teen. those are MY rules at least but it really depends on maturity and how old someone LOOKS, not neccesarily how old they ARE. [ = Have a nice day!

my advice is no age doesn't matter as long as you both feel the same way..just because he had a serious relationship with someone else and it didn't work out that doesn't mean that your relationship wouldn't work. his relationship before you was in the past and thats all it is the past.now its just you and him if you both want the relationship then go for it no matter what people say AGE DOESN"T MATTER. unless its like a 19 yr old and 65 year old then that is just gross

Age really doesn't matter as long as everyone is of a legal age. Love knows no age limits. I'm not talking about gold-diggers, but two people that have a wonderful, exciting connection!!

It depends on the 2 people. My b/f was married for 22 yrs when his wife died. So you can say it was a good marriage. He met her when she was 19 and he was 34. They were happy.

I'm 38 and my girlfriend is 22. We see no problems in our age difference. As long as everyone is legal, I don't think age matters period unless it's a problem for a specific individual for his/her own reasons.
