Kittens need to eat many times abecause their stomachs are smaller so a kitten 3-6mos should eat 3x's a day and 6-9 mos 2x's a day. be sure to always have water available for water is very healthy for animals just like people. Also make sure that the food you are feeding has NO Animal BY-Products which actually is the junk part of the animal and when for ec\xample it says chicken its actually the beak, feet and so forth ground up and no chicken meat. Since Cats are Carniverous its important they get Meat. You can get quality kitten food at Petsmar/Petco any Petfoo store. All grocery pet food has by products-look under contents. Nutro i a very good brand. Ny cat is going on 14years and has only eaten Nutro Cat Food and never any By-Products

It depends on how the kitten was brought up and how it is used to eating. If the kitten has always had food available to it whenever it pleases, it will eat when it's hungry and stop when it's full. It will not overeat. This is how most breeders feed their cats. If the kitten has always been given the exact amount of food in the morning and evening (and does not have access to food throughout the day) then there is a possibility it will overeat if too much food is left out. It completely depends on how they were brought up. Your kitten is still pretty young so I think you should be able to feed it either way and it will get used to it. I think it is better to just leave food out and then they can eat when they are hungry. It is the most natural way.

I hope you will take seriously what Oracle has to say about quality foods and that would include 50% canned meat not just dry food. I would actually feed a kitten four meals a day at that age and I suppose you must leave food out if you are away at work or school. It is not good for a cat to become a "nibbler" on dry food all the time. It's not a natural way for a cat to eat.

When the kitten is older you will be able to convert it to regular meals. That is the way for it should eat.

I have had my 5 1/2 month old kitten for 2 months. I just keep his bowl full of kitten food...although it's a challenge keeping my older cats away from it!

You keep the bowl full till the kitten is at least one year old, then you can start regulating their food intake, if you notice the cat is eating too much food.

Keep a dish of dry food on hsand for them 24/7 but give it canned food at least once a day because it helps them get rid of hairballs!

If it is an "only" cat just keep food and water handy. The cat will set it's own schedule.
