Using the button on the remote control saves wear and tear on the actual button to eject on the player. There is a contact behind the button on the player that is hit and can/will wear out over time with repeated use. When you use the remote, it is just using a signal to activate the motor and open the tray.
Anyone who's ever had a button go bad on them on a piece of electronics can relate to this.

Here is my answer to that question. I have noticed a delay by a second or two on the eject on my remote as well as the player itself, I find it much more convienent to use the remote to eject the disk and have it ready for me to remove by the time I reach the player.

A) You don't feel like getting up to switch the discs and since most women or wives can't work electronics all they would have to do is put in the disk for you and you do the rest.
B) maybe they are assuming you have a well trained dog that can switch discs for you.
Neither of these situations apply to me.

As mentioned due to the delay in the tray opening...it's ready for you when you get there...

That is an interesting question; but not a stupid one. The only stupid question is one that isn't asked.
