3 -5pm after school - play time (outdoors if possible).
6 pm - dinner
7 pm bath
8-9 - homework, get clothes ready, read a story if time permits
9:30-go to bed.

Mine is only in kindergarten.
Hope that helps.

After Dinner Is Free Play And Cartoons If They Wish.

Bedtime routines can be a hassle to establish..but if you are firm, and follow through with the routine every day..it will soon become effortless and will lesson the chaos.

It's very important to pay attention to your families individual needs. Are there many weekly activities? Do you or your partner work late into the evening? All of these will factor into what bedtime is for your household.

School age children typically need 10-12 hours of sleep per night. So, depending on when your children need to rise..set the bedtime accordingly.

For me personally, I feel 8:00 pm is a reasonable hour for my children to go to bed. However, this time is more flexible in the summer and on weekends.

Whatever time you choose, keep in mind that you must be consistent with a routine. You might first have the children change into their pajamas, brush their teeth, and read a book every evening. Soon enough..they will look forward to this time with you..and their bodies and minds will be used to settling down in this manner.

Also, don't worry if they tend to stay up a bit in their rooms. As you might need some time to settle in (many adults read before bed..or watch t.v.) I believe children may require a bit of time to settle in. It can sometimes be hard to slip right into sleep after an exciting day!

Lastly, make sure not to give children soda (especially with caffeine) in the evenings. This will for sure keep their minds stimulated when they should be settling down.

Best of luck to you..and trust me..bedtime doesn't have to be a battle! :-)

I don't really have a strict routine. My kids get off the bus at about 4 everyday. I let them have a snack and hang out (inside) just to relax a little bit. Dinner at about 5/6. Neither of my kids have homework very often so they do it when they are ready as long as it is started before 7. I let them unwind and calm down after a day at school before I make them do homework or feed the dog. They are not allowed outside to play unless their homework is done though. At about 8:30, we figure out what they want to wear to school the next day, brush teeth, get ready for bed, etc... At 9 off to bed they go! Showers they can take whenever they want as long as it is before 8:30 and after a shower they can not go outside.
Like I said, not really a strict routine or schedule but it works for us!! Good luck!

Lay off the TV about 1 hr before bedtime. Either read a book or do something to calm them down. TV stimulates the senses so they can't fall asleep. Make up a routine on the computer with pics so they can see it and know what to expect. Lay clothes and bookbags out in the evening. Works for me and I have 5 girls and work fulltime. Good Luck!

We get home at about 5:30. Sometimes we eat a home cooked meal as a family and some times not. Anyhow during supper we talk about our days. After she has some down time watching cartoons its time for her to take a bath or shower-she is 6-then we watch tv, or read or play games and then she is off to bed at 8.

3 kids home from school - as soon as kids come home they get a snack and do any homework and then have any free time left to watch TV or play outside.

5--6 dinner

6-7 help with dishes and cleaning up

then its bath time...

that usually done around 7:30...

then 7:30 - 8:30 parents and kids hang out together...talking, watching a short movie, or playing a game..

8:30 to 9:00 each child reads in room bay themselves...

9:00 lights out...

Homework is done right away. If time is left before dinner they may read, watch tv or play outside. After dinner we usually walk to the park for some playtime then home for baths. I get their clothes ready for school while they bathe. To bed by 9.

The ideal thing is home from school, snack and conversation-homework -then play until dinner. help after dinner, a little tv, bath, snack, bed. Notice I said ideal----you are not alone---it doesn't work for most moms. Do the best you can and follow your instincts. Good Luck-they grow up much too soon.

My son is in 4th grade. He goes to Kids On Campus afterschool where a tutor helps him with his homework until 5:30. Then we go to football practice (or whatever other activity we are involved in. We get home about 8pm. Then we have dinner and watch movies or TV until 10pm. Then we brush and wash and go to bed (or at least he does). If we don't have K.O.C. or any practices, we come home at 4pm and do homework, followed by outside time if the weather permits. Then we have dinner about 6pm and play games or watch tv until it is time to get ready for bed.
