I agree since the "under God" part was ADDED in 1954 during the Communist scare. It was done to make us different from the "Godless" Communists. The daughter of the original author said her father would have been appalled at the addition.

Amen to that, Brother! Or, er, Sister, whatever you are! I just don't understand how Christians think that they have the right to wheedle their little religious phrases and commandments and whatnot here and there into state affairs. If they want a religious reference in the Pledge, we ought to alternate every week, maybe...first, Under God, then, Under Allah, then, Under The Goddess, then, Under Buddha, then, Under Osiris, or Odin, or whatever else you can think of. But how many of them are going to agree to THAT? No, it's their God or nothing...is it even possible for them to understand that just because they are the majority does not mean that they are right.
Oh, and just reading through some of these other answers makes my stomach churn...but I'd better just let it go there or I'll rant for three pages...

My allegiance goes only to Jehovah God and his Son, Jesus Christ. Whether the expression "one nation under God" is in the Pledge or not means nothing to true Christians. As Peter said at Acts 5:29, "We must obey God as ruler rather than men."

This nation was founded "Under God" and I believe that "Under God' should remain in the Pledge of Allegiance. Ever since "god" and the 10 Commandments have been removed from schools, court houses, jails, etc., crime has increased, even to the point of school shootings. This is a country founded on the precept of the Majority Rules and if the majority prefers "Under God," then so be it. Regardless of what the minority, "politically correct," anti-religion, ACLU boneheads demand. Ooooooh, don't get me started this late at night, please!

I grew up saying the "Under God" part, so naturally, I like the original pledge.

Excellent point. There is plenty of God stuff around for people who are into that stuff. Let's make the pledge for everybody.

The two simple words "Under God" are the reason people from other countries flock to the United States by the thousands each year.

the original form was "one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all." i think there is just flat out too much uproar about who we are offending and things like that

I guess my history books were wrong in school. I could swear I read that the Pilgrims came here to escape religious persecution so that they could worship God freely. They actually fought to form "ONE NATION UNDER GOD"
So are we progressing as a nation or regressing?
God will not stay where is is not welcome. Just look at our schools. Prayer is out, violence and death is in.
Is this what we really want for our nation?
