Yes, when I became a Christian I was baptized into the body of Christ.

"For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ. For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body--Jews or Greeks, slaves or free--and all were made to drink of one Spirit. 1 Corinthians 12:12-13

No where in the Bible is anyone ever told to "ask" for the baptism of the Spirit although Jesus did tell us that we could ask to receive the Holy Spirit like I did when I made my faith confession.

Luke 11:13 If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!"

But Jesus made it clear that the Holy Spirit moves where He wants to move.

John 3:7 Do not marvel that I said to you, 'You must be born again.' 8 The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear its sound, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit."

Yes, but it's not just given once. It must be maintained with study and prayer.
