I have never had baby gerbils before!! There are four they havn't opened their eyes yet and they were born not to long ago-10/16/06!!I had no idea the mother was even preganant!

yes separate the male... I had some when I was a kid and the male ate the babies

Leave him in. He will not hurt the babies and will actually help. A very important thing is NOT to disturb the tank. Don't move the food/water dishes or toys and don't take the dad out. If you upset the mom by taking him out it is not good for the babies and could cause her to eat them. Take the male out for now. Leave them alone. Do not handle them yet. Let the mother take care of the babies. Good luck.

I'd take the male out ASAP....he might eat the babies. Taking care of the babies is the mother's job...just make sure she has a clean cage, FRESH water and plenty of food and nature should take care of itself.

I think the male needs to come out or else he could eat the babies. Call a pet store.

I asked my daughter & she said take out the Daddy. Make sure to give mom extra food & water since she will be nursing. Make sure to watch babies close by the time they are covered in fur they should be eating "normal" food.

REMOVE THE MALE
If you don't he could possibly eat the babbies. I know, it's sick, but they do.
Get a seperate cage for the male and keep them seperated from now on unless you want to go thru this 5 times a year.
