You can be in the military without being a citizen, but you have to have a green card.

Having a green card means you are a legal immigrant/legal alien/permanent resident.

Yes. It's how a large percentage of hispanics actually achieve citizenship where I live. Hispanics make up a massive chunk of the marine core. I think that rocks. If someone's willing to die for this country, and face our enemies, come in BROTHA! :) My opinion on others slinking in and leeching health care and other socio-economic benefits without contributing to the money pool (ie taxes, legal wages) is another story, but I'll shy away from the podium now.

No. You have to be a "legal" immigrant with at least a green card in order to join the US military. Read this article that was in Yahoo News just tonight:

I know you can be in the Navy, and possibly the Army. Not sure about the marines. My husband was in the Navy and served with people from a few different countries, and they were all working for citizenship, though not all were illegals. There are just over 33,000 illegal immigrants in the service right now(CNN). It is also faster to get your citizenship this way.

Yes. A lot of people gain citizenship in the U.S. by joining the military.

Hope this website helps!

Yes, all the branches of the Armed Forces will accept qualified enlistees who are not citizens.

Ask this again in the "History" and "Military" categories. Or Google it if you want the truth.
