I'm currently using this soap that claims to whiten the skin, from papaya enzyme, which is a very good exfoliator, and it is supposed to exfoliate dead skin.... my question is, how does exfoliating the skin make it lighter? I mean i take a shower everyday and i'm very clean, i dont think i have any dead skin cells? and from exfoliating them how does it make your skin whiter? -MAny people claim that the soap really works!

If your skin in dark from the sun or other environmental factors, exfoliation can make your skin lighter. But if you naturally have more pigment in your skin (african american), it won't help. You will have fresher, less-blemished skin, but not lighter.
*Everyone has dead skin cells. Your skin naturally regenerates and sloughs itself off daily. Majority of dust is skin cells, which is gross, but true.

Being clean has nothing to do with needing to exfoliate. Dead skin cells are still on your skin. Exfoliating gets off the dead ones and brings out new ones which are whiter and newer. Ex: The sun tans your skin causing it to turn brown. Actually, these are just dead skin cells. THis will take away that tan and those dead cells and the new ones will be white. Yes your tan will go away if you have one. It may take a few times, but it will. It's a good thing though. It keeps your skin healthy.
