Take them in temporarily, to find them a new home with your safe guidance. If they mean that much to you, exceptions can be made.

It's a sad situation, and you've certainly found out that the "no-kill" facade of animal rescue isn't really that. People will tell you that some animal shelter will be able to take them, but the fact of the matter is, shelters are overwhelmed. We like to believe that heartwarming stories of animal rescue are the norm, but the fact of the matter is, suffering, cultural indifference and immorality, and death is the reality. Cats die in the millions at shelters - healthy, vibrant animals, even kittens - and you and I never see it.
My suggestion is to seriously talk to this woman. See if there is something you can do to help out - perhaps it will prevent the inevitable. Shelters are probably not the answer. People want kittens - age at a shelter is nearly a death sentence in and of itself. I would try putting-up adoption posters in veterinarian offices. Include heart wrenching stories! Make sure the cats have fantastically cute names (even if you have to change them) like Jellybean, Cupcake, Banjo, or for the pair, Ruff and Tumble. Take a really great picture - use uncluttered backgrounds, and put them in a basket, throw them in a pile of stuffed animals, or by a flower pot. People want something young and fresh!
It's great to hear that you are doing everything you can to help these individual cats, but I have to admit, I'm a cynic. The feline population is dying and suffering in record numbers, and with so many people like the woman you know in the world, the problem is only deepening.

Why is she needing to give them up? Is it finances?
Can some of the community get together to help fund the care for her cats? Does she need help at her home to keep them? Is she disabled and can no longer care for them appropriately? If so, can you talk to her about going to her home to care for these cats for her. Many people, especially the elderly, become disabled and/or financially troubled and find everything overwhelming. Talk to her right away. Once you know the reasons behind her needing to find them a home, you may be able to find help for her so she can keep the cats, if that is what she wants to do. It sounds like she has tried everything to find them a home, but has run out of feasible options that would ensure they get a good home.
Beware of some no- kill shelters. Some are no- kill because they send the ones they want euthanized to another facility to euthanize them. And, this lady is right about advertising them in the paper. No matter how much she questions people, those who want animals for lab research know all the tricks. Some even bring children with them to make it seem legit.
Sorry for the emotional turmoil you are feeling. I hope this all ends well for everyone involved.

That is AWFUL! I'm sure there is someone who will take them in. I would but I have too many animals already. The paper is a good idea but she should try harder to find someone to adopt. Sometimes pet stores like petco and petsmart have pet adoptions. She should maybe find out how she can do that. She has to try. There is no way she could possibaly have the heart to settle for the last resort.

Only option probably is for you to take them in temporarily (or find someone you know that will), keep them in a room and put up ads at pet stores about their situation and that they are free to a good home. When my sister's cat had kittens they put up a flier in either Petsmart or Petco and had no problem getting homes for them.

Tell her to go to local small pet stores a lot of times you can find a store owner who will take pity and try and sell them of make them store pets otherwise try asking everyone you know if they are interested in them a lot of people would rather have an older trained cat than a playful hyperactive kitten. Good Luck!

First she can ask friends if they could take them, she could also look into a "friends of the humane society" foster type situation. She also might want to consider driving a little distance to get them into a no-kill shelter. It may cost a bit of gas but look at the alternative.

I know its sad but sometimes putting healthy cats down is the only option if there are no other facilities. Its a shame people dont care about other humans as much as they do pets!

It sounds more like this woman doesn't want to do the right thing no matter what you suggest,
I have a cat and like cats in general, mainly because they are survive rs and very adaptable in all situations.
i live in u.k and here i see quite a few stray cats which seem to do very well.
in short its better to set it free somewhere, and believe me the cat will have a better chance than being shipped about and then finally being miss treated in the end by some cruel lady, intent on refusing advice from someone who's interests lie solely in the cats welfare.

Take the cats in and find them homes. If she's in Indiana, e-mail me and I'll find them homes. Cats shouldn't have to die because no one wants them!!!! Tell her she needs to be resonsable for her animals! You don't just get a pet and kill it. There are many people who would love a sweet friendly cat. E-mail is casey_mears_fan41@yahoo.com
