That is excessive. I would definitely get him checked out by the vet. I had an older cat that had a thyroid problem that caused excessive weight gain...
The vet will probably have you make changes to the cats diet. Make sure you pick foods that list chicken as the primary ingredient, not corn. Corn is empty calories, and causes weight gain. I feed mine Nutro indoor formula.
Secondly, make sure you are feeding exactly by the directions. Don't just fill the dish when it is empty - feed the cat only the amount listed on the bag.
Good luck!

Change his food first. Get a DRY food for overweight cats, and if you can't find that, get a senior formula. (For the people that say canned food is better, it has a major down side... tooth decay.) Check the bag and measure out what he's supposed to have. Then, split that in half and give him half two times a day so he doesn't eat it all at once.
Also, play with him. Don't just get hima toy and leave him alone with it. Actually play with him... even if its just chasing your hand for a few minutes everyday or getiing him to walk around following his food dish... whatever you can. Do that, and he'll lose weight.
It's just like people... eat healthier and excercise.
Good luck.

It needless to say works and if i could accompanied it precisely i think of it may scare the residing daylights out of me using volume that i could lose. So thank you back for the techniques. i've got by no ability offered something like this in the previous because of the fact they're frequently crammed with trash, yet 3WD has been a delightful marvel. start at present!

You don't say what you are feeding him, but I can bet you are feeding him stuff from the grocery store shelves, and/or Iams.
One, canned is better than dry. Two. Feed him twice a day. Don't leave uneaten food out. remove the food between feedings. He may protest, but stick with it. Feed him the recommended food for his desired weight from the instructions given on the package.
Go to the website at the source below for a list of foods that is healthy for your pet. They may even have more tips for controlling your cats weight.
Best wishes to you and Simba.

Put him on premium catfood like Cat Chow, Iams, or Science Diet.
These don't have alot of fillers that would keep your cat eating and eating. There are cheaper cat foods out there like WalMart's Special Kitty that are nothing but filler - cat box filler(lol!)
When you use premium cat food, your cat won't have to eat as much to get what it needs so the bag of food lasts longer.
If I was you I would start your cat off by feeding him a 1/2 cup of food twice a day. Eventually he will be used to the food and you can just fill his food bowl. every day.

low calorie senior diet premium cat food. As long as he gets lots of water, dry is fine. If you serve canned then mix the two. Regular cat food from walmart of supermarket is like the cheap food you buy for humans. They are cheap but it is made from the worse things possible and you will be hungry again.
