I'm not afraid of any insect. However, my immediate response in seeing a cockroach is....to kill it -- it's like a reflex! I also hate deer-flies -- those things will chomp a bit of flesh out of you! Again, I just want to kill the darn things -- but I'm not afraid of them!
Spiders are actually pretty ok (except for the brown recluse, black widow, etc). They eat many bad insects. And, some of the larger spiders are able to kill a mouse! And, yes, as someone else here noted, they are not insects -- they are "arachnids" (which also includes scorpions, mites, and ticks)

There are very good reasons for insects to exist. If they didn't exist, flowers would not get pollenated and therefore we would have no fruit. We would have no honey from bees. Certain flowers would die out because they need insects to bloom and/or survive.
Personally I have a phobia of bees and wasps. But I don't mind spiders because they eat other annoying bugs like gnats, flies, and mosquitoes.

I am afraid of ones that attack and or are poisonous. I also hate any bug that can or will craw on me in my room. So I make sure to remove all incests I see. Now for old in the wilderness or out site only a few bother me like ones that drink your blood and , bees and horse flys but not so much the horse fly because there are limited were I live.

I am not that scared of insects, I think they are fascinating, I think you should watch some science shows, they really can be beneficial more so than harmful.
But having said this I will run from ,wasps and hornets if I have accidental bumped their nest.

no longer truly scared - in basic terms disgusted by technique of cockroaches. yet having suggested that I do recognize their skill to face up to nuclear explosions. If someone dropped a bomb right here ala Hiroshima, the roaches underground will proceed ingesting our water and eating our garbage yet produce favourite offspring. We human beings will drink the water, kena hujan, and get radiation poisoning. Roaches have not replaced for the perfect 600,000 years and function replaced little before that.

Insects don't bother me too much. I used to be scared of spiders but we have so many crawling around, I'm used to them. But black widows still freak me out and I always end up killing em :(
