The Expressionists have always been my favourite. Realists (in various forms) tried to capture the world as it is, but the camera can do that. Modernists, rebelling against realism, tried to create a world that isn't, or at least one that you may not recognize. It can be interesting but is often cold & impersonal, geometric, more about pattern or effect than substance, hard to relate to. Expressionists paint not just what they see, but what they feel. Using colour and exaggeration to express mood in their figures, it is passionate, intense art. My own paintings tend to be expressionistic. I put my own feelings into each piece.

Contemporary art is the best art, because of one key idea: Pluralism. All styles of art are being made now. It is an exciting time to be an artist.

I like baroque & photorealism. :)
Why? Because it's really hard to master, but once you get it right, you *do* get it right. Plus baroque has this kind of 'power' that will make you go "WOW" upon seeing the image!!

Sigh. The more I think of it, the more depressed I feel. When can I achieve *that* kind of standard??
