Mow your neighbor's lawns, wash their cars, walk their dogs.
Get your neighbor's involved with your quest, and they might
come up with other things they need done and that they are
willing to pay you for. They may even pay more than usual
knowing what the cause is. Do they have stuff they are willing to give away that you could sell for a profit on ebay?
Good Luck.

$1700? This is WAY too expensive!
All the museums are free. The Metro (subway system) isn't expensive, and hotels are not that much, especially if you're sharing rooms. I'd definitely find out what's included in the cost because this can be done for much much less.
Given the amount of work you're going to have to do to to get the money for the trip, I'd seriously consider waiting a few years until I could get a regular job to pay for this or any other kind of trip.
However, in the Maryland area, some pizza places and subway shops hire 14 year olds if they have a work permit, which are available in the guidance office of all middle schools and high schools. It's too late in the year to organize a yard sale, and unless you want to shovel mountains of snow, that seems like the best option.
Good luck on whatever you decide to do.

Are you kidding. 1700 dollars! for what. Evrything in DC is free. The monuments, museums, the memorials are all free. I lived in DC for 2 yrs I am sure of this. There are three airports so I know the ticket can't be that expensive and I wouldn't be surprised if you are riding the bus, in which case where the hell is all that money going. I say save your money for a better trip. There is no way DC is worth 1700.

You could try to run a car wash at a local church or bank. You could also do random chores or lawn care for people in your neighborhood.
