A new family moved in next door. We live in a very nice neighborhood and I recently noticed that their car is such a distraction to the beautiful houses in the beautiful neighborhood. I'm not a car-person, so I'm not sure the make/model, but it's an old beat up white car that is rusted. The thing that bothers me is that they choose to park their car outside of their home instead of parking it inside their garage (even though it's a 3 car garage). The way our houses are situated, their parked car happens to be parked right next to my lawn, very close to my home. My question to you is, can I approach them and ask them to kindly park their car in the garage from now on so that A) people do not assume that it's ours and B) so that our neighborhood continues looking upscale and beautiful!

Legally, if they are not breaking any laws you are limited in what you can do. You do have the right to ask them to move it, but if they choose not to, your options are limited.
If your neighborhood is a nicer one you probably have a homeowner's association. If so, push to have a new covenant that would prevent this sort of eyesore. If there is no HOA, consider starting one for the sanctity of the neighborhood.

You have no right to ask them to do so. I have have a neighbor who stuck a rude note on our car saying they did not like the way we keep our yard. I am not saying my yard is perfect, but this same neighbor came over on my side of the fence line and cut a bunch of stuff back from his yard and left it on my driveway. What an idiot! What I am basically saying is don't pick a fight w/ your neighbor. Get over it. People who know you will know the car is not yours. By pointing out how judgmental you are, you will be letting your neighbor know that it is something that bugs you...and they totally have the right to park on the street. So then they could do it just to annoy you. I would ignore it if I were you.

These people are making crystal meth in that garage, there is no room for a car. I f you have a home owner's association, you could probably get them to talk to them. You could hire a person to steal the car. But, if you do that, the neighbors will borrow their mother-in-law's car and it is worse than theirs. Crystal meth producers usually have a high turnover rate, so give it a few weeks and they will probably be in jail.

Best thing to do is ask them to park it in their garage, explain to them why you feel this way. If you have an HOA, check to see if there are any guidelines regarding derelict cars. My HOA tells us what color we can paint our houses, what kind of fencing we can put up and even what kind of landscaping is allowed.

No, no and no. Well I suppose you could...but live and let live!! If they're not breaking the law it's okay. So what if it is a white rusty van....no one died, a war didn't break out.
There is so much more in the world to be concerned about.

You shouldn't say anything to them because then they will think that you are stuck up and upity and you don't want to cause trouble with neighbors because the whole neighborhood will hate you.

ewww! Are you ever crass! It's a public street, and they can park where they want. I wish they would park right in front of your house, since it bugs you so much...
