I'm sure everyone that drives or has sat in the passenger seat has encountered these situations where they see the car in front of them *constantly* stopping. If the driver is learning how to drive/a new driver, then okei, that's understandable. Or if the driver is driving a standard car, that's understandable. And yeah, sometimes, they may be looking for a street or something but ergh ... what about all those OTHER times? I just figure there are other reasons.

What's worse though are those folks that brake at every intersection even with GREEN traffic lights. There are no flashing hands or anything to indicate that the light is going to change soon!

So! If you brake for phantom cars, please enlighten me as to why you do it. Thanks~!

some people are driving with vision problems like depth perception, optic neurtis (inflammation of optic nerve), near or far sighted or otherwise shouldn't be driving....and they are constantly breaking because they are misjudging the distance of the cars in front of them.

Some people with certain eye problems see halos (lighted areas around the vision ) and I think they see cars in front of them that aren't even there and brake for those too.

The best idea is simply to pass them. The road rage idea is to get in front of them and jam on the brakes a few times to teach them a lesson.

defensive driving.
If I am approaching an intersection and I see a vehicle coming that hasn't slowed for the signal/sign enough, yes, I will brake enough to be able to avoid them if they run the light.
I've seen so many people just go right through lights, I don't want to be t-boned.
I'd much rather be safe (even if I have the right of way) than to have a dead passenger because some bozo ran a light and I wasn't ready.

I can understand how you feel for such drivers who are a
nuisance on the road. Remember, there are many kinds of
drivers on the road and the thing is to avoid such drivers if you
can. Don't follow them too closely and apply sudden brakes.
You either drive at a distance from them or when you have the
chance just overtake them quickly in the safe manner and
be on your way.

You never know if someone else is going to run their red light! It's still good look both ways and scan the intersection. I think though as people age their driving gets slower and slower and judgment is a thing of the past! LOL

I'm probably just high and not really paying attention. I see brake lights so I brake. Under any other circumstances I'm passing.

I understand your frustration I have no answers for why other people do this I only know when you are driving you have to watch out for other people because they are usually the ones to cause accidents.
