It is the top right by the tooth in the very back, and it is red, sore, and a bit ridden up. What should I do about it as far as taking care of it? I know how when something is healing it will itch, and it does... I can even find relief when itching my outer cheek. I am a bit ashamed so i don't want to see my dentist, so everything from professionals and people with experience will be appreciated. Thank you!

First off, why are you ashamed? Trust me, there's nothing we haven't seen before and hardly anything shocks us. Keep the area well brushed and flossed. Rinsing with warm salt water is very soothing to the gums. And if it doesn't go away in a few day or gets worse, make an appointment to the dental office, they're to help you. Good luck

Hi Audrey,

I have had redden and inflammed gums, so after I brush my teeth and gargle, I use tea tree oil. Just use your finger tip or Qtip with tea tree oil on it and rub on your gums. Try not to drink anything for about 15 minutes so it can really work for you.

Now, realize that tea tree oil does NOT taste that great but then neither does medicine, but it does work!! It will make more saliva right after you put it on your gums and then it is normal.

If you can do this a couple times a day you will see a difference shortly!

Let me know if it works for you!

It depends what kind of inflammation it is. Is it from an injury? Or maybe it is because your last cleaning was more than 6 months ago? Anyways you should not be embarrassed to go to your dentist because this is why we are there, helping people when they have problems additional to preventative care. But to relief some of that pain, you can rinse with warm salt water. And maybe apply some orajel just to kind of numb that area. If the inflammation does not go away after couple days. Definitely go visit your dentist.

floss daily, get regular dental cleanings...

gargle with warm salt water to help the gums a little. It doesn't taste good but try it.

If it doesn't go away in a day or two, call the dentist office and get in there.

It could be a plaque build up around your teeth which is caused by poor brushing and flossing. Also regular cleanings. You will have to go to the dentist because it may be an infection. Don't be embarrassed our dental office has seen everything and no one will make fun of you.

If this is your wisdom tooth it may be infected. This happens alot and should be removed. Usually once a 3rd molar becomes infected it will subside, but will become infected again.
My first suggestion is to visit your Dr.
While you are waiting for your appointment date you can brush that area thoroughly (it will bleed and this is good) and rinse with a solution of salt and warm water to kill any bacteria.
It is possible that you have an abcess and my need antibiotics.
Please don't feel ashamed, dentists are here to help you with issues like this. They see it every day. This is why they went to school!
I am a dental assistant and believe me, we see things that people should be ashamed of. This is not one of them.
