I've read that most fighters in their first fight in the UFC make $5,000 to fight $5,000 to win.

Most people tend to think that the winner of the TUF competitions automatically earn six figures but that's not true. In order to make that money they had to fight and win 3 fights a year for the next three years.

On the other hand Dana White in a recent interview said that for the Liddel vs. Couture 3 fight both fighters earned over $1million just for showing up. That of course doesn't include endorsement deals (chuck liddell signed a multi-year contract with xyience for over a million dollars just recently), sponsorship money and any money earned for seminars, teaching and coaching.

The following are the fighter pay outs from the UFC's June 28th Ultimate Fight Night 5 special on Spike TV:

Jorge Santiago ($4,000) def. Justin Levens ($5,000)

Rob MacDonald ($10,000) def. Kristian Rothaermel ($5,000)

Jon Fitch ($16,000) def. Thiago Alves ($6,000)

Jason Lambert ($14,000) def. Branden Lee Hinkle ($4,000)

Josh Koscheck ($14,000) def. Dave Menne ($4,000)

Mark Hominick ($8,000) def. Jorge Gurgel ($5,000)

Rashad Evans ($24,000) def. Stephan Bonnar ($16,000)

Anderson Silva ($36,000) def. Chris Leben ($7,000)

Jonathan Goulet ($6,000) def. Luke Cummo ($12,000)

TOTAL FIGHTER PAY OUT: $196,000

The fighter gets the least. the manager a nice sum, and the event organiser (UFC) the most. look at the door sale price, count the heads, add pay per view and work out the sums.

Though if you could get to the top, you would still be making money for doing something you loved.

these poor saps don't make much at all. The undercard guys only make about 5-10k per fight and another 5-10k if they win. The champs do about 25k-100k and the same for a win.
