I can forgive people who wrong or offend me, but what business do I have telling anyone that his or her sins are forgiven?

The Jewish people believed (and still do) that only God was able to do that.

Yet, Jesus, a Jew, forgave people's sins all through His 3-year ministry on earth.

Why? Was He a delusional schizophrenic who really thought He was God the Son with the authority to forgive sins?

Yes, Globilizer, I agree that the Bible never refers to Him as 'God the Son'. However, I don't see that there's much difference in the two terminology, as He is as much God as God the Father, and God the Holy Spirit. Three Persons in one Godhead, all equal but having different roles to fulfill. It's like in a marriage--Husband and Wife are equal but they may have differing roles within the family.

Jesus is the son of God. He was sent on earth for one purpose and one purpose only and that was to die on the Cross for my sins and yours.
I think it is great that you can forgive people but the only way that a person can be forgiven of sin is to repent and to make a turn from the sin in their lives.
Jesus forgave people of their sin because He has the authority to do this. Jesus was also an example to others. Jesus showed people that it is much more better to forgive someone than to continue to hold a grudge.

First things first, He is the Son of God. Secondly, the kind of forgiveness that was represented on the cross for us is differant than us turning the other cheek. He forgave sins not only for 3 years but for anyone who would accept his free gift, their sins are forgiven for their past, present and future sins, for ever and it was by the shedding of His blood and yes no one else can do that because it had to be somone without any blemish, who was perfect because He is God made flesh.

Jesus is the son of God; he is not God. He did not have to be God to forgive sins. Just read Matt.28:18 where Jesus told his followers that "all authority has been given me in heaven and on earth." Jesus can forgive sins and he is mankind's judge because that authority was GIVEN to him. Before he was given authority, he did not have it. He is NOT God.

The son of man is a reference to the priesthood. Jesus said dont you know the son of man has power to forigve sin on the earth. Jeremiah and Ezekiel were both called son of man and both were priest. That was the job of the priesthood to cover the sins of man. Jesus covered our sins once for all. God Bless

Jesus is the Son of God and therefore has the authority to forgive or retain sins. He also gives this authority to pastors (shepherds, overseers) in the pastoral epistles of 1st and 2nd Timothy.

Jesus died for our sins. As long as you believe in the word of God. Jesus didn't want you to believe that he was God but to believe there was a God and to be good and faithfull. But since people didn't believe in his teachings he was put to death. He said he would die for our sins and that's what he did. He didn't fight the people off did he when he was put up on the cross.
