It's a toughie.
Burger King has better burgers if you ask me. They are flame grilled and I like the toppings and dressings better too.
On the other hand, McDonalds has far better fries. BK's fries are just too bland.
As far as shakes, salads, and other stuff, they're both about the same.
So what's more important? A better burger or better fries? I prefer BK.
Now if we widen the choices to all major fast food chains, then I think Carls Jr. has the best burgers, and Jack in the box onion rings are outstanding!

neither, but if you must choose from those two, Burger King.
Jack In The Box and In N Out are the best ones!

Is it even close? Mickey D's for sure. BK's uses microwave ovens for some stuff and I find that quality control varies widely from location to location. I like BK's for some stuff and go sometimes but generally speaking, McDonalds seems to be much better.

McD - Big Mac with Fries
I prefer White Castles but they don't have stores around.. only on the freezer section poo ahh..
