Try Murphy's Irish Stout. It's actually better than Guiness and has a slightrly better taste. Second option is move to the Bahamas. Guiness has a brewery in Nassua I beleive, in any event, it's just as good as the Ireland version at a fraction of the price. Aron Go Bragh!!!

This is largely a case of appearances deceiving. People expect Guinness to be bitter, strong, and thick because it is dark and has a reputation. In reality, Guiness is a "dry stout", medium-bodied rather than thick, with relatively little hob bitterness. I suspect that the bitterness the asker notes is more a function of the unmalted roasted barley that is a centerpiece of the dry stout style. Here's an experiment: next time you are around a Guiness, pour an ounce or two into a wineglass and treat it the way you would a wine tasting. Be open to the experience. You may not like it, but I think taking a bit of time with the tasting will allow more flavors to come up and be recognized. Allowing the beer to warm to room temp will also likely bring more to the table.

Try Left Hand Milk Stout. It is rare, and probobly even more expensive than Guiness, but it is much better than Guiness. I know that this doesn't necessarily answer your question, but once you taste Milk Stout, I think it will.

I know people will say this is stupid, but steel reserve is a high gravity lager that you can get a 12 pack for around 7 bucks. Its darker than most beer and has a similar, though no exact taste. Its pretty good in my opinion, but I do not know how you are. I say at least try it

The real stout, can only be experienced from the bottle. Find a grocery, or liquor store that stocks Guinness Extra Stout. Your eyes will be opened to ales.
Guinness, is not cheap but we have our American equivalents.
Good luck!

i think some porters taste like guiness, i think its molasses or something they put in it, i like guiness after a few of them but the first one doesn't seem to go down that well with me, not like a crisp refreshing lager does, but we all have our tastes.

Somebody else's Guinness. Wait until he's not looking and steal it. It may even taste better than usual for being so cheap!
