Why do Mormons believe that God did not create everything out of nothing as we read in Genesis? Why do they claim that God at one time lived near another star, named Kolob, and after achieving a celestial power base, he went on to fashion this world?

Where are you getting your info from? We believe exactly what is written in Genesis about the creation. The only "mormons" that believe in Kolob are those that are not in affiliation with the LDS church and have most likely gone off on their own views of the religion.

There is nothing in the teachings of the LDS church that indicate the God lived on any other stars or anything like that.

Sorry pal, but you were sorely misinformed. I don't know where you're getting your info, but it's wrong!!!

Because Joe Smith was a nut...and people trusted him. They have so many strange, out there ideas about things...sadly most of them dont know their "true"faith..they argue to the death most things that they say are lies when in fact their documents state them clearly...Cults dont allow much research .

EDIT:really it's Not Joe...Hmm WISH I HAD KNOWN THAT...no crap it's nort Joe it's shorter....like a nice little nickname.

What about the fundamentalist/pentecostal scholar Finnis Jennings Dake? He too taught that Heaven was a Star located "North of Earth" in his Dake's commentary bible.

How about Heaven, hell, redemption, deity and divinity existing right here? no fairy tales, just trust in your OWN Godhood!
