My fiance and I are considering throwing a last-minute New Year's Eve wedding. We know that many of our East Coast friends will not be able to come because of the short notice. Our fear is that the people who want to come won't be able to afford it because airfare around that time is SO expensive. I've checked all of the big online travel sites and visited Jet Blue and Southwest since they usually have the lowest rates. But I'm not having any luck. Does anyone know how we can get a group of people from NYC to Los Angeles for a long weekend and at a reasonable price?

I'm sorry to say this, but group airfare or not I just don't believe that you are going to find the rates you desire. Group airfares don't take off quite as much as you might think they do. New Years is huge for travel, rates are elevated and prices go off of availability. Unfortunately I started booking some New Years trips back in Feb. and March.

I wish I could give you better news, but it wouldn't do any good to give you false hope. Unfortunately it might be quite difficult if not impossible to do reasonable airfare over this time. Are you able to change dates to bring rates down? Jan should be a little better in price, but as the months go on with winter in the upper states prices increase then as well. No matter what it is you choose to do, it is going to have to be a quick decision, because this much I know. The rates you are finding now, will only go up even more. They won't go down to last min. deals. Travel is changing to require advance purchase and even if you have advance purchase it doesn't guarantee a good price. It just gives you a better chance at one.

Good Luck to you and Congrats on your wedding! Destination Weddings are the best!

For groups Specially for the holidays it is not easy, cheap and holiday do not mix well in travel.... Looking at major airlines is not the answer and you will not save.

I recommend consolidators, most will not work directly with individuals but with travel agents. You can contact your local travel agent and see what they have available.
