My family were from Istra. My mother made this wonderful topping when she made Pasta al Forno. It was made from bread soaked in milk, eggs and parmesan cheese. Is this a traditional recipe or did my mum make it up? I am looking for a recipe.

Homemade pumpkin butter would be great. I've attached a simple recipe that you can prepare in a crock pot -- put it in and forget it until it is cooked. You also could serve plain and spiced cream cheese, plain and spiced butter. But my best guess is that your guests will be thrilled just to have homemade pumpkin bread. It sounds like it will be wonderful as is.
