No. A little too dangerous for me as a beginner.

If you are on top rope, you could always tie a prusiks. If you climb seriously, it is a knot worth learning because you never know when your ropes are going to get sucked into a crack etc. It is also imperative to know for glacier travel. I would recommend getting the book Mountaineering: Freedom of the Hills!!!
