Theres are no signs of a disease, like a fungus, but there are dark spots on the upper corners of my big toes. I heard that it could be from wearing polish too long, as i often do.

Yes! The nail polish, normally your darker colors, will stain or discolor you nails. Keep in mind.. The cheaper types normally contain this and even if used for short duration it can cause this.
Some cheaper brands carry formaldehyde or other chemicals that will discolor

I work at a foot doctor's office. Yes, it can make you're nails yellow and can eventually cause fungus. Let you're nails breathe for a little bit. Change your polish often. The dark spots could be the beginning of a fungal infection and you can't ever truely get rid of fungus. The older you get the worse it is. A simple plan of changing the polish often and letting you're toes breathe is a easy trade off instead of ending up with thick, crumbly, yellow nails. Nasty!!!

Yes you can get discolored nails from certain nail polishes. All you need to do is buy a clear base coat and use it before you put on any colored polish. Just make sure your nails are clean before you put any polish on.

if you wear nail polish a long time it will discolor your nails. most nail polish has formaldihide in it and it wont let oxygen pass through which is need for healthy nails. you can still were polish but try wearing polish one week and the next week without.....let your nails get the oxygen they need to be healthy.

yes, it can. And, good old fashioned sunlight has been known to be an antimicrobial for some bacteria/fungus.

Give 'em a break every now and again. Besides, naked toes can be sexy! Use clear!

Yes, it can. try soaking your feet, then lightly scrubbing your toes. If it doesnt work, paint them a lighter color. Seems that darker color polish always seems to discolor nails.
