You should be able to find baking soda with the flour and sugar in an American grocery store. Baking soda is also found with household cleaners at the grocery store.

You will find baking soda in the grocery store aisle with flour, sugar, spices, and other baking items like chocolate chips and cake mixes.
A common brand name is Arm & Hammer, in an orange box.

Baking soda has many many uses. It is a catalyst in baking, where it helps leaven baked goods by its fizzing action with mild acids. Baking soda is a cleansing agent, and helps dissolve grease and dirt. It can be used as a mild scrubbing powder, and as tooth cleaning powder. It absorbs odors. It also neutralizes acids, so taking a teaspoon of baking soda to settle an upset stomach is an old recipe. You can also empty a box of baking soda down the toilet to relieve smells in a septic field.

I am sorry but I do not know the name of baking soda in Chinese. Perhaps it is not used in Chinese cuisine or is known by something other than "baking soda" ; however, it is very common here in the USA.

If you are in Singapore, try baking shops , there is 1 in Haig Rd, 1 in Hougang Central, which sells baking needs from flour to baking tins.

I am sure they have it.
