My african grey parrot is really sweet most of the time. shes really good with people and doesnt bite. but yesterday i had her out of the cage and she was standing on the counter in our craft type room and she climbed into the shelf with the newspapers on it. So i went over there to get her out but she tryed to bite me. what would cause her to do this?

It might be that she's found a spot she wants to use as a nesting spot. If she's really bonded to someone she may be in the mood to mate, etc. The other option is that she just really liked the spot and wanted to be left alone. Greys can be weird that way :-) .

Was she really trying to bite or did she put her beak onto you to see if it was safe to step on to you?
Do not think she is going to bite but testing wether she can trust you. Do not pull away, let her get hold and she will trust you and probably step on to you.

I am guessing that she did not want you to remove her from the shelf, it was something new and she wanted to investigate it

It may be its' new territory, and wants to mark it and let everyone know "This is my spot from now on".
