In Florida the jobs that the illegals will do that citizens won't is the sugar farms. It's steamy hot, low wages, in the middle of nowhere (therefore no decent schools) and you have to be bused in to the fields everyday. Not quite the American dream.
PLEASE NOTE I am NOT defending illegal immigration, just answering what I know locally.
Personally I believe that a special work visa should be given. 30% of their pay is "banked" and they get it back when they return HOME...this would allow farmers the help they need with the cheap labor, send the workers back with the money they need and allow a rotation of fresh workers. I do believe they work hard...at least here they do. It's a sad site to see their children...they look neglected almost. I'm not judging them, just trying to find a way to curb our tax dollars going to EVERYONE else and keeping our food costs lower.

Well this question just seems a little ridiculous because the jobs that illegal aliens take are precisely the jobs that most Americans wouldn't do. I think I know what you mean though you should have phrased it differently. Any way illegal aliens tend to take the jobs that are tax free and manual labor unless they forge their documents which a lot of them do. I think most Americans that are pissed off about it aren't worried about the jobs that are being consumed by non tax paying citizens they couldn't be because it has been stated that even the aliens that send most of their income to their home state still contribute a large portion to our economy. If you think about it it's almost a good thing: small businesses are getting a break from the government without getting jipped on good workers, it's helping another culture by putting more currency into their country, also and i am talking about immigrants in general not illegal but it is creating a more diverse atmosphere and that is never a bad thing. I think some Americans are just stuffy in nature there is no other way to explain it.

Where I live we don't have an illegal alien problem (yet). Funny how our lawns are mowed, our produce is picked, our houses are being built, restaurants have plenty of staff, etc. So to say that any of these are jobs that Americans won't do is absurd. In response to the comment about the farmers in the NW not having enough workers to pick their crops, my question is this. If there are 12 to 20 million illegal immigrants already in this country, why exactly didn't they have enough workers? Could it be because even the illegals won't work anymore for slave wages?

Because there is no such thing as jobs Americans don't want. The problem, is that by allowing all of these darn illegals here, they take jobs out of Americans hands.
See, here is how it works. No American wants a nasty job picking fruit for example. But, if no one takes the job because it sucks and is low pay, then the farmers have no choice but to pay more until they are competitive with wages of other jobs, even jobs like McDs.
AN american wouldn't take the job at its current pay because they can make more money over at McDs. If the illegals weren't jumping in to take jobs for chump change, employers would have to pay more and Americans WOULD take the jobs.

The jobs Americans don’t want? First, asbestos removal from old buildings how many Americans would do that for a living none. Second, you try roofing in Arizona in 120 degree heat, and labor laws that make it illegal to have native construction workers form closed shop to force contractors to actually pay workers comp, and health insurance benefits. With construction jobs and cutting healthcare benefits it’s not worth it for a lot of them to make 40k a year climb a roof and risk an injury when the health insurance policy can’t cover the cost of the injury or the workers comp policy coverage is crap at best. Immigration reform is useless without labor reform so that roofers, asbestos removal people, carpenters, landscapers don’t have to worry about being bankrupt because of a work injury and a employer refusing to buy decent workers comp insurance. I don’t blame the Mexican here it’s the fact labor laws are weak in dangerous jobs performed. I know the some will argue well, they should go get another job they do in office desk for half the wage because not worth risking your body for double the wage if you know contractors, and employers wont pay for decent workers comp coverage for injured workers. It’s not all about Mexicans stealing America jobs. Its your guy in the neighbourhood building his own deck by himself goes by the home deport, and talks to migrants needing help setting up posts to pour footing of cement for a deck.
A lot of under the table work is done by small shop owners, and home owners. Its 21st century indentured servant like the South before the Civil war. We need a serious discussion of immigration along with Labor Laws. We do need to shut down business hiring illegal that means not a fine, but confiscation and freezing assets of employers hiring illegal. Would you go to a doctor unlicensed? We need to expand that requirement base to more trades before immigration will be resolved. Also, Guest Worker program Bush is proposing is a good start. Mexico, has structural problems in the economy too that need to be fixed, and those problems require America if push comes to shove to collect taxes off Mexican Billionaires that are not willing to pay Taxes in Mexico. Congress is smoking screening the issuse, and the republicans want the cheap labor under the table, and the democrats want the future voters. Both poltical parties dont see the reality of the problem.

Its not that they take the jobs americans dont want, its that they take the jobs that americans dont like to do!! Theres a difference there even though it may be small. Sure there are alot of Americans who would be available to do them, but how willing would they be?! And why do it when theres someone who is so willing to do so? This area of our immigration problems should be blamed not so much on illegal immigrants but on the businesses who hire them, because illegal immigrants are on any given day going to accept being paid 4 -5 dollars an hour when that wage is 4-5 times more than they could make at home.

It's not a matter of them taking the jobs. Like most people realize, most Americans don't want the jobs that the illegal aliens take. The problem is that when you have an American down on his/her luck, then they start to consider those jobs. If they're forced to start one though, the wages they are payed are only a fraction of what they could be because there is a high enough number of illegal aliens who are willing to work the jobs for next to nothing.
Personally, it doesn't bother me because i don't need those jobs, nor do i want one.
For some people though, they need those jobs but are being undercut by people who CANNOT LEGALLY BE EMPLOYED in the United States because they have no work permit which means they cannot pay taxes.
So... Ultimately, it rips everyone off.
But realize this. The people coming over here risk it all. Since we know we can't stop the flood of people from coming, don't you think the government should find a way to tax their income somehow and make them citizens? If they are unwilling to pay taxes, go back home.

A great many food service jobs (restaurant work)!! Cleaning jobs (houses, business' & hotels) cement work, roofing too.
Some Americans will do these jobs, but there arent enough to go around. Simple supply & demand.
The only job I know of that Americans do not typically do is picking fruits & veggies.

When's the last time you know of an American who has applied for work in the orchards??? If you say you know someone, I'm sure you are lying, and even there were a few Americans who would do it....they wouldn't do it for the same amount of pay... Farmers are not rich people and if they had to pay out so much money just so that Americans would work in the fields than they would go broke! and so would their orchards! The price of YOUR food would go up in the stores so that they could try to stay in business, and then I'm sure you'd be b*tching about that too!!!

Because they just throw out myths and can't back them up. Same with the racism argument and helping the economy argument. They rely on labelling, myths, and profanity. If they had any brains they'd try for the compassion vote, but that wouldn't work. Still, it would work better than their current strategy.
Annie A, food service is one of the last jobs would pass up. I work in a kitchen in the summers. And to the answerers below her: You cannot say no one would take a certain job, just as you can't say everyone in the world has muscular dystrophy (just one of the first ones that came to mind).
