I'm told that American "Indian Summer" approximately equals European "St. Martin's Summer".

It's a patch of summery weather, often after a light frost, in the Fall, close to Winter. Zone 4 and 5.

supposedly, it is the reprieve of nice weather after the first frost of the year. it is short lived in time.
