My child was trying to immitate a child he knows at day care. He has been studdering ever since. He does not have any jaw tension, or loss of eye contact, so doctors do not feel it is a "true" studder.

Try things like making him speak clearly before you give him what ever it is he is asking for. Or if he is trying to tell you something. My Nephew has a stutter and we have to tell him to slow down, think about what he wants to say, then say it. It works.

My little girl started stuttering after we bought her a DVD - on it the child stuttered - we took the DVD away - kids sure do pick things up fast -
anyway we told her to slow down and try again
after a few weeks she stopped - never did give the DVD back.
With your child being in the same child care center it might be a little harder - just tell him / her to slow down and not talk that way big girls / boys don't talk that way every kid wants to be big. hope this helps you

I agree with the first answer. I was a nanny for a little girl who developed a stutter when her older brother started kindergarten. We simply told her to stop and think of what she wanted to say, and then say it carefully, and she did great. Doctors will tell you not to correct them, but sometimes they need it to help them. Even if it's not a true stutter, this will work.

give more exposure by visiting other families with kids bigger than yours and in a month the other kids in the day care will be copying you kid fluency. take the challege. otherwise it seems you have very little to offer your child as a parent trhat they copy a sladder be commited and talk alot with your kid.if worse go to worse change the daycare.

It's probably just a phase. It's good that you took him to the doctor but for your sake i hope this other kid changes daycares. It's amazing how kids pick up habits of others so quickly.

he will stop it when he is no longer with the other child. now he thinks its cool to do that.
