How/ why?
I know when my heart is compassionate, for whatever reason, protecting, in truth, or tested, sincere prayers for others, healing, I feel God close and he helps with great compassion, or I feel him happy, Holy spirit.

Prayer. There is something in the power of prayer. Prayer allows me to draw closer to God and most importantly it allows me the time to listen to God. So many times we are talking and we never give God a chance to speak to us. I am drawn closer when I feel His Holy Presence speaking to me through His Holy Spirit.

I feel close to God when I see a sunset, or sunrise, look into the eyes of one of my children, or my grandchild, when I take a walk in the forrest, of see a sky so blue it is just the most amazing thing around, with the clouds flooting across, in the thunder and lightning zipping and banging, in the rain softly falling or pounding the roof, in my fiance as he helps me about the kitchen or just sitting holding hands. I see God everywhere and know, deep in the reaches of my heart that all I need do is reach out and He is there. He never leaves us, we leave Him, and that is the saddest thing of all in this world.

I feel close when I wake up and thank Him for another lovely day. But elements? The sunset. Hearing my baby & his father laugh together. My family gatherings when we're happy together. Some things in nature that belong to me & God.:o]

The nearest I draw to our Heavenly Father is when I can attend a temple for certain ordinances. After that, it is partaking of the weekly Sacrament on Sundays that bring me close.

There are times I have a specific hunger for the Word, but...it is when I'm "on the hunt"...when some specific topic or passage is burning on my heart. I can spend hours looking things up. I love when that happens.
Other times, when the gifts flow; I'm deeply aware of His Presence...

When God the Father reveals his undying LOVE for me on a very personal level, making me not just believe BUT KNOW without doubt or waver that I am loved even in my wretched state, I cannot help but bow down in awe and worhip the ONE who has saved me--- not just from fear and hell or death but from the wretched person that I am!! I have to worship---I am called to worship

A feeling of serenity and peacefulness--being one with nature. Feeling the presence of my Gods and Goddesses within and without--this draws me closer to deity.

It sounds like to me ...you answered your own question...no one can tell another person how to bring themselves closer to God..you stated you have compassion..and most of all ...you said you feel God close and he helps you..what more do you need..or should you desire..blessings to you.

I like it during Worship when Someone is Quietly Singing (usually a Woman) and the Angels help her Out.
