Probably the same reason you would be offend by someone who worships the devil speaking about him in front of you. Think about it.

Usually, when people find it offensive if you talk about God in front of them, it is because of several reasons, some simple and some more complex. Some don't believe in God and feel like you are throwing Him or pushing Him at them. Others feel guilty, because they have once known/walked with God and have went astray from Him. Some are still in the process of making a decision as to whether to accept Him as their personal Savior and don't want to feel pressured, which people say they do when God is brought into a conversation. Any real believer/follower of God is not offended when you bring Him up in a conversation, unless you're taking the Lord's name in vain. Hope this helps. P.S. When these people seem to take offense, pray for them that God will open up their minds and hearts to the truth.

I know what you mean. Anybody who starts talking to me about God has to explain how anything up to and including an all powerfull, all knowing, all seeing being can possibly operate outside time and space itself. They seem not to know and they seem to find the question offensive. It's not like all believers have never thought of this and/or don't think that it is important, is it? Oh, well, who cares! At least we don't find it offensive to talk about God... good for you!

There is a saying about talking about religion or politics, Religion is a touchy subject, people start to talk about the lord and it looks like they feel they are better than the rest around them, how they are saved and the rest aren't, how they are happier than anybody, and won't accept other people viewpoints or opinions, and then you have people upset, you know that, and then after all that this religious people ask what happens, why people are upset, and that must be the devil etc etc... Keep your believes for whoever want to hear, save yourself leave me behind I'll be grateful

Because most people find the private speaking about God (Christians) to themselves, unless they are in church. When the right time comes to speak about our Loving God, then most people will listen. But many want to just read the Bible and keep their special time with God, to themselves. The word offensive is not the right word, but private is a better discription.
I Love talking about our Dear Lord and Savior. Especially to people who are searching and in need of comforting Christian support. But know when to and when not to. Don't push it down peoples throats, when you can tell they are not ready for it, yet.
Use your wisdom to speak.

Religion is private and should be kept to oneself. Most Christians are overbearing and like to irritate people, however they would raise a hissy fit if a pagan started talking about the old gods in front of them.

I don't find it offensive, but I'm ready to kill when they start testifying and trying to convert me. That's where I walk away. You're more than welcome to talk about your religion all you want - and I've had good meaningful discussions about religion with some people, but when they start in trying to convert me - that's when I tell them to either shut up, or walk away. I'll respect anyone's right to their beliefs, but don't try to get me to believe your way is the only way. And its even worse when they start trying to get you to believe their church is the only way to heaven - if there is such a place! That means a lot of people are going to go to hell - if there is such a place! So enjoy your religion, but don't try to push it off on to others.

1. Age has a lot to do with it. Piers might get uncomfortable cause they are not good at putting words to their emotions of faith.

2. Some dont believe or if they do, not sure they really do and dont want to think about it. Material world.

3. Afraid of agruments...look at how Christians are treated today.

4.

Talking about god isn't necessarily offensive. It's more a matter of *how* you talk about god.

Philosophical discussions are fine, but if you try lecturing me on how I'm going to suffer an eternity of torture just because I don't hop on my left foot on alternate Wednesdays, don't expect me to be happy with your preaching.

Some non believers feel that you should keep religion to yourself and not talk about it in front of everyone as not everyone shares your views. Kind of like the non smoking thing. Smokers want to smoke but non smokers get offended.
