26. When the Comforter is come, whom I will send from the Father, the Spirit of truth, who proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me - The Spirit's coming, and being sent by our Lord from the Father, to testify of him, are personal characters, and plainly distinguish him from the Father and the Son; and his title as the Spirit of truth, together with his proceeding from the Father, can agree to none but a Divine person. And that he proceeds from the Son, as well as from the Father, may be fairly argued from his being called the Spirit of Christ, 1 Pet. i, 11; and from his being here said to be sent by Christ from the Father, as well as sent by the Father in his name.

If you read the previous chapter, then you'd know that the Holy Spirit is the "Counselor" in John 15:26-27. Jesus is saying, " I will have God the Father send to you the Holy Spirit, and that the Spirit of truth will cause you testify about Jesus." That is what it says to me.

John 16:7-15~ Jesus is tlaking about how He is about to ascend into heaven, leaving behind His followers. Jesus had to go away because the Holy Spirit could not come down if Jesus was still on earth. The Holy Spirit would guide those people and show them the truth.

Its the Holy Spirit. Jesus had to leave and go back to the heavens, so the Helper can come and He will advocate for us FOREVER. The reason I say forever is because, many think its another MAN we must follow, but the Bible clearly state He will be with you always!! Its the Holy Ghost not anything else!!

In John 15:26-27 Jesus is speaking of the Holy Spirit to be sent to the apostles on Pentecost. In John 16:7-15 Jesus speaks of the forensic character of the Paraclete's role: in the forum of the disciples' conscience he prosecutes the world. He leads believers to see(a) that the basic sin was and is refusal to believe in Jesus;(b)that, although Jesus was found guilty and apparently died in disgrace,in reality righteousness has triumphed, for Jesus has returned to the Father;(c)finally, that it is' the ruler of this world',Satan, who has been condemned through Jesus' death(12,32)

The Holy Spirit. Also referred to by Jesus as the comforter.

The key is in the words "Spirit of Truth." This is the Holy Spirit, who would come upon the disciples at Pentecost. (Contrary to what Muslims believe, Mohammad cannot be the "Spirit of Truth," since he was merely a man.)

"When the Helper comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of Truth who comes from the Father, he will testify on my behalf. You will testify also, because you have been with me from the beginning."

I think He's referring to the Holy Spirit, and in particular when Christians received the Holy Spirit at Pentecost.
