I have a friend who makes decent money in banking/finance. He spends plenty of his typical $7000 a month checks buying video games, paying for his Chrysler 300c and on his girlfriend.
He is 26 years old, hispanic and shares a small apartment with his mom. I don't blame him for it because his mom is divorced and his brother died in a choking accident - so he probably doesn't want to leave her side. (understandable)
He makes plenty of money to afford his own apartment.

Not too long ago, NYC had a bedbug infestation and alot of people were forced to throw out their beds. To make a long story short, I visited him a number of times in the past 5 months and he hasn't gotten a new bed yet (though I know he could buy one).
He claims he sleeps on the sofa bed (pull out) in the living room.

BUT, I visited him yesterday and found out instead of sleeping on the sofa bed, he was sharing the same bed as his mom????

I made fun of him calling him OEDIPUS and telling him one night he is going to have a really "good" dream and he is gonna wake up accidentaly "conquering his mom". I made a bunch of jokes on him.

He gives all the money he makes to his mom because he has bad spending and drinking habits and he has to argue with her to get money back - like they are a damn married couple.

IS THIS A NORMAL THING? Or am I expereincing culture shock?

I love my mom but at 25, Im not sharing anything with her especially a bed... I'd rather sleep on the floor with a sleeping bag or some blankets.

He sounds like he is a mama's boy. His mother has shirked her responsibility in bringing up her child to be independent. She's not teaching him anything. He will probably be unsuccessful in relationships as well because of this. Any sane girl would feel threatened by this type of relationship. Remember this- everyone who is in any type of relationship, is in it because they are getting something out of it that they want. It may not be all they want, but they're getting SOMETHING they want. What is the mother getting out of this? Where is his father? The father/husband relationship, whether from the past or present must have some bearing on the way these two are conducting themselves. They may not neccesarily have a sexual attachment, but what they do have needs some fine tuning. Sounds like they both need therapy. She needs to teach her son to be a man. The problem lies with both of them.

Hahaha... At my age, I certainly wouldnt mind having my son sleep with me ONCE IN A WHILE, but everyday for at least five months? That is way too much.

I love my son, yes, but I need space and I want my privacy.

Creepy.... and WEIRD!

Sleeping with your mom is OK -if you are 6 years old or under!!!

Whatever his excuses are - this is neither normal nor healthy.

Time to find yourself a new guy, since this guy already has a girl.
