I do not know how your church uses Catechisms, but in my church we see the Westminster Confession of Faith, the Shorter Catechism, and the Children's Catechism as a capitulation of what we believe on a particular subject. We do not view it as a replacement of the Scripture, but as a summary of the oftimes dozens of passages covered. For example, Chapter 1, The Holy Scriptures, pulls 24 different passages together into the explanation of what we believe about the Bible. It also puts it into a language that is more readily understood in a statement form as opposed to the narrative or argumentative format.

Live your life, follow your faith but in the end we shall know. Do you not read other books about your faith? Do you not listen to other preachers or ministers?
