I noticed he had doggy bad breath but thought it was just part of being a dog, but yesterday when we were bathing him I took a good look in his mouth, poor pup, he is missing some teeth and his gums look really bad! Money is tight, what can we do? Can these bad teeth kill him?

how old is your pup?
pupppies lose their teeth just like children. If he is around 3-4 months old, then he is teething and his gums are swollen and sore because he is getting in his adult teeth...... be sure to give him lots of things he can chew on....... a raw unpealled orange, or potato is good. the more he chews on a citrus fruit, the more vitamin c he can get........ and old bobbie sock tied in a knot is a good chew to get his teeth going......... if he is in this age bracket and this fits,,,,,,, then you dont need to go to the dentist... if his breath smells, it could be something he is chewing on or has eaten recently. hope it helps. I have been breeding and exhibiting dogs for about 20 years.

Maltese are know for having two sets of teeth. You are lucky in a way other than the smell. Sometimes both sets come in at the same time and then one set has to be removed. The bad ones will fall out, keep a close eye on them, and another set will start to come in. Make sure he has chewies. I am a big advocate of giving dogs small carrots. Cleans the teeth and the breath.

im not sure of sogs lose teeth as pups. they sell denta-bone treats that will keep his teeth clean, but if the gums look infected, take him to the vet. infections can kill, and its close to the brain, so it can become dangerous quick. I know dogs teathe when they are young, I dont know about losing baby teeth...
You can also get toothpaste for dogs at petco or any petshop.. dont know if that works..

YES, your dog can die from diseased gums. Many, many health problems arise from the infection that lies in the gums. The infection can enter the bloodstream and make your pup very sick. Please, if your dog is older than 8 months and losing her teeth, seek veterinary care immediately.

Good Luck:)

Won't kill him but it is verry bad for his hidgene. I would visit the vet and ask them what to do and how to stop this from accuring in the feture. We give our dog snacks called greenies and he has never had a bad breath problam yet. Hope that helps.
