My son has been getting constipated almost everyday. It's started since he began table foods. I have started giving him prune juice and plum smart juice, but it doesn't help loosen it right away. I think the finger foods and table foods are too much for him right now. I'm going to switch back to purreeed baby food for a while. What other foods will help with the constipation? He just had a bad bowel movement that was so hard it tore him a little.

~~~To much Iron in a baby/toddlers diet can cause constipation. If your baby is still on formula, check the lable to make sure its formula with out Iron. Introduce Iron formula just few times a week. Yes the prune juice will help, may take a day or two though. Make sure he has a bowel movement everyday, if not then your baby needs to go to the peditrician. You dont want your baby to get an impacted bowel.
You need to allow him to drink water now. You need to see a nutritionist for your son. They most of the time will give you better info on how to keep your babies diet healthy. Go to a drug store and they have baby constipation drops that you can mix with formula or juice. Oh and cut back on the table food for a little and see how he reacts which will let you know if his stomach is prepared enough for it yet.
Aww poor lil guy!!!
I use this with my daughter, and she poops within two minutes of insertion. They are called Infant / Children Suppositories. You can get them at grocery stores, pharmacies. Get some kind of lubrication (like vasoline) so it goes in easier. Make sure the baby is calm when you use it so it's easier. I swear to you, it works every time because it stimulates the bowels, and it softens the poop up so they can go.
Try giving him a little bit of water each day to help keep things soft.
I wish you all the luck for you and your son!!!
it's ok for them to get constipated. it's cause of the change in food type. thats not bad. but try giving the baby more apple juice things of that type until it loosens up.
Do not worry, most babies encounter these problems till one year old. These troubles are usually without danger and caused by the immature digestive system of your baby. Even if it happens a lot, there are solutions to improve baby's comfort and yours
Use the following tips to make this transition easier for baby.
Swaddle the baby. Swaddling provides warmth and the same sense of closeness and security the baby felt while in your womb. To swaddle baby, wrap her snugly in a receiving blanket, but not too tight. The baby should still be able to move her arms and legs freely.
Feed the baby whenever she is hungry. Most babies will eat every two to four hours around the clock. Do not let the baby wait any longer than five hours without eating.
Babies are "nose breathers," and they do not know how to breathe through their mouths. It is important to keep the nasal airway clear.
Baby frequently has mucus the first 24 hours of life.
Sneezing and coughing are normal ways babies use to clear their airways.
Normal breathing is typically shallow, erratic, and stuffy. Mucus can cause baby to gag or can plug the nose. Use a bulb syringe to suction mucus from baby's mouth or nose.
Just add a little KARO SYRUP to his bottle or cup. I used it for both of mine, and my mom used it for all of her 5 kids. It works, and they don't taste it if you shake it well. It won't hurt hm either.
How long has he been on table foods. Make sure he is getting fruit! Good luck!!
