My dad is very racist. He hates anybody that is not him. I am not racist, and it angers me every time that he speaks that way he does. Should I loudly object every time that he makes a racist comment?

Listen, me and my own family (parents) have a completely different idea on lots of things. Though my parents aren't racist they are both very much against homosexuals. I am not at all, as a matter of fact I have friends and even cousins that are gay! But even though it has caused a lot of fights between us, I still stand up for what I believe. Just because our parents are ignorant and close-minded on things definitely doesn't mean that we have to be. Be the bigger person and talk about it with your dad. Tell him how you feel when he talks badly about other people. It's going to be weird at first but if he respects you for who the person you are, he will keep his comments to himself. Good luck!

The problem with racism is that usually there is a reason for it.
Still, you could try gentle persuasion when dealing with this matter. Your father needs to know you are on his side and support him in everything else. You could point out to him we are all members of the human race and even Jesus said : blessed are the peacemakers for they shall be called the children of God.

Yes, you should object. Point out, in your normal speaking voice, that everybody is an individual regardless of race or religion. If he likes puppies, tell him that you can't understand why he likes them, but looks down on his fellow human beings.

Pick your fights. You can't argue with him under his roof. I'd toss you out. You have to understand where you dad comes from, his experiences, he has been at this longer than you. You don't have to adopt his thought, but you have to respect them.

no... just let him be the way he is, do not let it affect you, when he says something racist, just think to yourself, im better than the way he acts and i will not let his actions affect my life or my opinion to other ethnicities
