The hot topic in the UK at the moment seems to be the rise in ''Faith Schools''. Should 120 planned Muslim only schools, be of concern to anyone outside of the Muslim community? Are schools the right place to guide young impressionable minds in strict religious beliefs, or should they be concentrating on academic education? This question is posed in politics and religion to capture both view points.

Education and religion should be totally seperate. Just put it this way if we were to open up a scientology school in your area and shut down your nearest inclusive school would you be happy? Now replace scientology with Muslim (after all scientology is probably less about brainwashing) and would you be happy?

I do not believe there is a place for education in schools in anyway and Religious Education should be removed from the curriculum. There are kids who aren't being taught the correct use of English but know what the Koran is, where is the logic in that?

Religion should only be practised in churches or the home (if at all), nobody should have it imposed on them at an age that they are as vulnerable as children to brainwashing.

Indoctrination tinged with education. The point is to what level the indoctrination takes effect. Islamic indoctrination takes a depth that is not acceptable to most people with a free thinking mind.. Christianity whilst maybe just as insidious allows for freedom of expression and following. If I had to chose either I would chose Christianity because it allows the individual to 'de-choose' at will. Religion of all kinds should be kept strictly within the home and not inflicted on all. That is where the Indoctrination takes hold.

Yes. 120 planned Muslim faith-based schools is of concern to everyone. Religious education in the way it is often taught in religious schools is a form of child abuse. Muslims schools help keep communities separate and are a thouroughly bad idea

What ever happened to Sunday schools where religion was taught and not dominating the whole education system.
I have no objection to faith schools but I would like them to have more into action with other faith or non faith schools, so they could learn to respect each other instead of separating and splitting our communities.

academic education is key. a child should have the opportunity to be open-minded and choose to have faith in what they want without a problem from anyone. for those not part of the muslim culture, they may feel almost pressured to join due to the increase in that society.

As long as the government ha a say in the curriculum, they should be fine. However, when the schools do not follow a state set curriculum, than they must be shut down to protect the children from abuse.

I've seen the textbooks--they have nothing to do with education--you can graduate from a christian school with the equivalent of a third grade education at any other school--it's sad--and don't get me started on their "science" books..........

As long as the religious bit doesn't get in the way of a well rounded education I'm OK with it. If you can get into university after attending one of these schools, it's OK in my book.
