I'd imagine it has a lot to do with distinguishing believers from non-believers in order to foster a sense of belonging in religious communities. Also often religious garb contains symbolic teachings with them, reminders for the practicioner more so than for the deity. Wedding rings are a good analogy. They certainly don't do any good to anyone but the people who are being wed, to remind them of their duties and their special status. I think symbols in religion work the same way. They remind and entrench the believer in their beliefs, and serve to remind them of how they are separate and different from those who don't believe as they do.

You're right. There's no need for police or military to wear uniforms. No one really wants to know who they are -- they should just go about their work.
Uniforms are a means of identification and also signify respect. The garments are not required, but worn out of respect for a Higher Power. Respect seems to be what we are most lacking in this world -- respect for ALL others!

I cover my head as a sign of respect. It is an honor to do so at Mass. "That which is veiled is holy" It is not a requirement but a choice. I have nothing to hide from God.

God doesn't require it. Culture and tradition dictate these things. Everyone has a right to choose, and some choose the follow the customs of their own culture.
What God does require is that we love one another.
Peace.

You have misdirected anger dear one. God never commands us to dress in certain garments to give witness to our Faith. Many men make up their own traditions and practices and follow suit accordingly. Not necessarily bad to do so but man decides.

I believe you are speaking of the Old Testament and not In the New Testament and the reson was that man could not stand In the pressance of the Lord (see Moses)Gods glory.
When Jesus came and died for us we no longer sacrificed to God,Jesus Is known as the Lamb Of God and we go to the Father through Jesus his Son who died and shed His blood for our sin on the cross.
I hope this answers your question, thanks for asking

Great question!
All God requires that we do his will as proclaimed by Jesus and Mohammad. Love one another...Spread Peace and Love throughout the world.

It isnt God! Its the people! Its their beliefs and how they interpret what God went through or the way he had to dress!
Since its the "people", people have choices!

He only requires us to dress modestly. It isn't about how He sees us,He sees us always and anyway. It's about our witness and decency.
