You should call the cops and tell them you are going to take them into your house. You should the humane society and find out exactly the steps you have to take to either get your neighbor some new brain cells and a heart OR get them taken away from him. It is abuse and not reporting it can leave you responsible. Some people should just not have pets or children for that matter. Those dogs are very blessed to have a neighbor like you. I did the same thing but it was kids instead of dogs. Your neighbor might be mad but just be polite to him, even when he's rude. He'll get over it, or he'll move... whatever. Have a nice day.

I may not agree with dogs being left outside, but they do have warms coats and a dog house. I guess I would be more concerned to see if they have fresh water and food. Or if the weather is extremely bad well below freezing and snow so high they cant get in or out of the dog house. I have pets and all of my pets live in the house, but there are people who keep their pets outside and that's their decision and no one can say they are bad or cruel. Regards KG

First I would knock on the neighbors door and politely tell them that it is snowing out and maybe they should bring the dogs in. If that didn't work I would call Friends of the Animals and report them. If you just go over there and take the dogs then (believe it or not) the neighbor has the right to call the cops on you for dognapping

There are no animal protection laws that say a dog house must be heated. You can call your animal shelter or local animal control officer to find out if they can do anything. Basically, they will probably tell you that if the dogs are going without food and water or being beaten in some way, they won't even come out.

yeah thats mean they just leave the dogs outside in the snow! i think i heard before you should bring your dogs in if it gets below 25 degrees. do you know if the dogs at least have a good blanket or something in the doghouse? hmm im sure the cops wont even care, but animal cops will. where do you live? if there is a A.S.P.C.A. place around you, you could call them and report animal abuse, by telling them the problem theyll know if its abuse or not. i have a neighbor who leaves there dogs tied up all year round outside.they feed them and give them water. they never go for walks, never get petted. nothing, cops dont care about them, and theres no ASPCA around me.if there was i woulda called a looooong time ago. so better luck with you and your bad-pet-owner-neighbors!

I see after posting this a dozen times or so you are finding someone to give you an answer you like ?? But no you can't take them into your home, that is theft. But most dogs can live very well outside esp if they have a house to go into. Here in TV for example dogs live outside all year ( they never go indoors, this is called a "outside" dog) it is a concept that a dog can live outside since they have fur coats and as long as they have a shelter and fresh water they will do very well. Sorta like the wolves and rabbits and the such in the woods. People get outside dogs ( since a pit bull is a outside and dangerous ansimial. And these dangerous killer dogs are fine right where they are at.

Animal control does not require a heated dog house. As long as the outside dog has shelter where it can get out of the wind, they probably won't do anything except to suggest a blanket to put in the dog house and check on adequate food and unfrozen water supplies.

Sounds like there's a doghouse back there so they'll be fine. If `they're outside dogs anyway, they will develop a winter fur. Bringing the dogs inside may actually hurt them - especially if they're used as hunting dogs... It may not be abuse... you might research the breed first. These two dogs are large breed dogs which most likely will like the cold. I know a rottweiler breeder who always left her dogs out in the winter.... they love it.... they actually don't like the 'warmth'.

I have to say that this reminds me of something my grandmother did. Her neighbor had a dog that was left outside in the snow. She dragged it into her garage, but apparently found out it liked the cold. Dogs do indeed come equipped w/ fur coats.

I admire people who make a choice to attempt to resolve civil disputes amicably and with out police involvement.I believe our society is severely lacking this quality in these day's of "metrosexuals" and "political correctness run amok".
I believe also that animals are the helpless victim's of our senseless action's.I can't stand to see how individuals mistreat their pets and how we as society always blame the animals!
I say try 2 resolve amicably and if the behavior continues your well with in your right to contact the authorities.
