I can not believe the disrespect that is shown on yahoo answers. Christian's may question the legitimacy of someones belief in a power other than God, but if they were to ask questions such as I have found in this section, they would be crucified (no pun or disrespect intended).

I find it hard to believe that so many people have not been taught respect by anyone in their life. My only other thought on the subject might be that the questions are cries for attention on the askers part. Unfortunately the attention that they receive on Judgment Day will not be the attention that they will enjoy.

I am amazed that all of the teachers in my life that said, "The only stupid questions are the ones unasked." were all so wrong. Obviously there was no yahoo answers site when they taught.

I certainly hope that people that choose to show such blatant disrespect will mature into more respectful adults.

Freud would say that anything that is longer than it is wide is a phallic symbol. But symbols have to be made to represent what they stand for and church steeples are not and never were built to symbolize a penis.

Based off the point of the pyramids. In the Egyptian religion, that channeled the Pharaoh to the afterlife. The church stole that.

Correcting the guy that said masons worship the devil. Most of the masons I know are atheists, some do believe in the devil, but none worship him..

According to my grandfather, yes. However, my interpretation is symbollic in a different way. It's mankind's attempt to reach God in the Heavens, although no matter how high we build the steeple, we will never reach God.

I don't want to interfere with any fantasies, as I have more than a few, and they are quite fun!
As I understand it, with my limited, penis-obsessed brain, the steeples (I live in MA, and there are plenty) were to serve as a reminder and a locator to help folks remember to go to church, and to give them a point to head for in the pre-map no gps days of yore (along with the bells).
I like your explanation better. I am single and male.
Hint, hint. Oh, those fantasies...

If we fundies get rid of the steeples on our churches for that reason, then the neckties have to go, too.

rofl. Men.. always obsessed with size.

*cough*

Actually, I sincerely doubt that. They're just built to be grand and capture peoples attention so as to be awe inspiring.
