If its a Jack-O-Lantern, rub some petroleum jelly on the cut parts to keep it from molding and soak it in ice water for at least an hour to keep it from wilting.

Are you talking about a pumpkin or jack-o-lantern? Pumpkins need to be kept in cool dry place or they'll rot....j-o-l carved no more than two days prior to halloween. Rub a lil lemon juice to help the browning and keep in a dry place.

i really don't think there is a way to keep it from rotting. buy it as close as possible to the time you need it. that might help.

keep it in the shed or garage till a few days before Halloween..
