Nothing like dedicating your life to something that does not exist.

There have been nuns in the past who have had children although I don't know about now. Of course their children were grown at the time they became nuns. I know there is an order in Washington State that excepts older women but, whether they have had children or not I do not know.

In a manner, becoming a nun after you've been married and had kids is no different than if you became a nun early in life. The only thing is that you do not acknowledge your past (you can still talk to your kids, but you are considered to be married to Christ).

You can become a nun later in life if you are a widow, if you are never married even if you have had children. Or if your marriage is annulled but only after your children no longer need you to care for them. Many have done such.
There are only two orders that require Virginity for their sisters.
Ciscterians and Carthusians.
The others require only Chastity.

There are many religious communities of sisters and nuns and each has their own requirements. For most, it is only required that the woman not be married at the time she takes herr vows so widows are accepted and they could have children.
