Excellent question Yuri! A lot of Americans are here with all the paperwork and all of the opportunity to work and what do they do? Sit around and smooch off the government, or they are drug addicts, or acoholics, or pedophiles! They don't work, but they want to complain when a Hispanic person works? Que se vayan a 'bañar'.

I'm kinda two sided on this. I'm for immigration in that it allows someone to come and build a better life for them and their family however I dislike the fact that someone who immigrates here illegally has a program available to help them when some or should I say a lot of native and legal citizens are struggling with little to no help. For those people their thoughts might be that if more and more aliens are to come to the US and can get help then that's placing them at an even bigger disadvantage. In other words how would you feel if a house that you had been saving a long time for was suddenly given to an immigrant as part of a help program? As selfish as this might sound many people have this thinking. And I agree in that I don't think its fair to help someone from another country when people in your country need help of course that's not to say don't help people from other countries but rather worry about those in need that are already here.

Ok, we as americans dont generally mind immigrants being here its the ILLEGAL part that gets to us. You make a good point in stating the reasons why they come, some americans are just not very compassionate to those reasons because they cannot see past the ILLEGAL part of it. Perhaps if America had the same type of corrupt government and such a lack of resources they would understand, but alas that is not the case, I guess we are just spoiled here and so FORTUNATE because thats what it is, just plain luck that we were born here. In a perfect world all illegal immigrants would go through the proper channels to get here, nobody comes here illegally just to get your goat, if they do it the illegal way its out of desperation and not knowing what else to do for themselves and their families. and ranting and raving will do nobody any good considering that theyre already here, instead of getting so angry and being so negative all the time which only promotes hate within the different races, we need to petition the government and vote, you cant complain if you dont vote!! and lets come up with some realistic solutions, not exagerrated violent ones. (ie. shooting, mass deportions!)

okay..first of all, i'm native american, swedish, irish, german, dutch, and just about everything else. I'm what you call a mutt. I believe in immirgration..I feel we need different people. What i don't agree on is illegal immigration, and that is what most people in america believe. Why should we allow you to break our laws and then stay here free of charge while you hike up our insurance rates and screw us up! (not you personally..I'm speaking as if I was talking to someone illegal) If you WANT to be legal, go through the paperwork. I know it takes forever but try. If you are at least trying, most americans wont have a problem with you. The things is, for many years and still today, many hispanics were coming over just for medical and going back, which messed our economy up. We are AMERICANS, not white american, black american or hispanic american. If you want to live here, you adapt. You understand our laws and become a citizen. Don't disrespect our country, when we aren't yours.
I'm sorry if I got angry..its just, I don't feel its fair to say we don't want immigration. We do, but this illegal thing is rediculous. When my ancestors came over, half of their families were sent back, for many reasons. They didn't just walk in. They had to change the way they spoke. My Great Grandmother, who was swedish, had to learn how to speak english. Why is that different now as well? Another issue I know. I just feel strongly about it. That's all.
sorry if I was harsh

Illegal immigration: the myths and the facts
By JOE R. DAVENPORT
10/14/2006
Myth: We are a nation of immigrants.
Fact: This myth is false on its face. Nearly 88 percent of the people living in the United States today are not immigrants; they were born here. This is a nation of natives, not a nation of immigrants. "But," the liberal propagandists reply, "we all have ancestors who came from other countries." And, one might reply, so does just about every other nation on Earth.
Are not the French merely descendents of the immigrant barbarian Franks, who drove out the Roman-era Celtic Gauls? And the English are simply immigrant Angles and Saxons who virtually wiped out the Celtic Britons in the fifth century A.D.
They too are nations of immigrants under this liberal myth, as is practically every other nation on Earth. The myth descends to meaninglessness upon any serious analysis. Yet whenever this myth is uttered, we are expected to nod our heads in agreement that a deep and salient point has been made.
Myth: Illegal immigrants are taking only jobs that Americans do not want.
Fact: Many illegal immigrants are able to work for less than market value because they don't pay income or Social Security taxes and are able to take their entire paycheck (or cash) home. This is not only unfair competition against employers who follow the law and pay employees "above the table," but it depresses the wage scale for Americans who would otherwise select jobs currently filled by illegal immigrants.
These are jobs that Americans "do not want" only because the illegal immigrants have depressed the wage scale for the positions. Take away the illegal immigrants, and wages would rise to the level where Americans would take the jobs.
Myth: Illegal immigrants have a right to come here. It is our Christian duty to provide hospitality.
Fact: Nearly two-thirds of the 32.5 million foreign-born people living in the United States entered this country legally, and the United States has more legal immigrants than any other country in the world.
That's hardly poor hospitality, and no bill before Congress that has a chance of becoming law would change this nation's hospitality. But it is poor hospitality to say to the nearly 22 million legal immigrants who waited in line that they wasted their time following the rules because illegal immigrants will now get the same status.
The need to deport illegal aliens and secure our borders has nothing to do with persecuting minorities or lack of hospitality. The United States can continue to allow a number of immigrants into this country legally, depending upon how many can be reasonably assimilated without destroying our American identity. Rather, securing our borders is necessary as a matter of principle - in the interests of equal justice under law - as well as practical security in this age of international terrorism.
'Nuff said.

First of all I am a true American, I was born here. This country wasn't called United States of America when the Indians were here(before the white man came) they called it something else,so they couldn't have been called Native Americans back then..My ancestors came to the New World in 1702,and after that we are all native born in America. The name Native Americans is an English term.
So you are wrong on that point. And its not that we don't want or like immigrants here we welcome legal law abiding immigrants.
What we don't want is the illegal that sneaks into this country and by doing so becomes a criminal. There is a huge difference in the two .Legal immigration is welcomed, illegal aliens are not welcomed.
FILO such drivel, and so self depreciating

OK One more time. It is not about immigrants. It is about ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS. There are laws to be followed to gain legal access to the United States. THere are reasons for those laws. Illegal immigrants are taking jobs that they have no right to.
What if I went to your home town, wherever that might be, and decided that I liked a particular peice of land. I decide to just put up my own fence and start building a house. Does that mean the land is now mine? No, it doesn't. If I went there and according to the laws, bought the property, then it would be mine.
Oh, I was born here, so I am a native American. Not an Indian American, but Native. If you were born in Mexico, does that mean you are Native Mexican? Yes, it do.

We pay for it.
Their better life is at our expense.
The reason their own countries don't pay for this education is becuase K - 12 costs about $10,000 per year per child, even ignoring new construction necessary in areas like Los Angeles ONLY due to immigration. Poor people don't make nearly enough money to pay that cost. The rest of us have to pick up the bill and stretch the money we pay to educate our own children to educate their children. To add insult to injury, ESL students slow education for the rest of the students and are disproportionately expensive to teach.
We are willing to pay for our own poor and our 'invited guests' who are here legally. However, the cost is why poor immigrants are limited not only in this country but in every country in the world that subsidizes benefits for poor people.
Our children's schools are failing and THEIR future is being ruined. Our health care is falling into a similar state with costs skyrocketing as we pay for health care for people who shouldn't be here.
Their better life is at our expense, and they are stealing our children's futures. What right have they to do that?

I don’t mind Mexicans living in America working and paying taxes, but we need to get real here. Mexico is plantation economy for the Untied States were reliving the mid 19th century again. The problem stems from employers under cutting competition playing by illegal rules to begin with. Need to start to treat employers hiring illegal labor like drug dealers and give them sentences like that. Mexicans, and lower class Whites, Blacks, Asians, Latinos are scared to report these thug companies because they will lose their job. I’m for Guest Worker program because it brings it out into the light. We can’t blame the migrants from Southern Mexico wanting to escape thugs. The Mexican politicians and American ones want the fence because behind the scenes it makes money for rouge people to fund there elections. Stop funding agricultural subsidies that don’t benefit 90% of farmers on both sides anyways. It’s a rigged game toward small farmers in Mexico, and America. Free Market works 90% of the time the problem is lack of transparency in the immigration process, and the lack of border patrol agents to check Cargo coming through. Coyotes Anglo and Latino thugs are laughing to the bank with the Fence. We need to take the troops out of Iraq and put them on the border. Also, we need a actual open discussion between Mexico and Untied States about bring about changes in labor laws and relations between both countries to ensure exploitation is reduced on both sides of the border. Free trade works when the rules are not 90,000 pages long. NAFTA will only work with harmonization of labor regulations on both sides of the border. Open Borders, and immigration is not advocated, but the blame should be on politicians, and business profiting off exploitation.

How can one say that it is lucky to be born in a certain country? We have just as many issues with poverty, hunger, and crime as quite a few other countries. The last thing we need is to deal with someone else's problems. What we need right now are people who can help the economy and country, rather than those who destroy it (i.e. illegals). That way, in the future we can extend our help to other countries more because we won't have to worry about our own borders.
Person below me:
Does it make any sense to call someone ignorant, racist, or uneducated if you clearly don't know them? By calling someone a racist or stupid blindly, all you do is prove your own ignorance. You are the type of people that screw up this nation.

You must be very young, and there probably isn't much anyone could say to change your opinion on this subject. If they want to live like us why don't they change their government instead of demanding that we take them in? A great many of them are in no type of danger at all, they just want to be rich as they perceive all US citizens to be. I also dislike the fact that you seem to think that all illegal immigrants are poor because of mistreatment, yet all poor citizens are this way by choice. Think about this a little more, maybe you will begin to understand our point of view.
