I volunteer with an organization that works with end-stage AIDS and cancer patients. We do housework, yardwork, cook meals, run errands, etc. It frees up time for families to be together and gives the patient someone in the house who isn't a nurse or hospice worker to talk to.

A few things.
1. I am working on myself, every day, to try to be a better person, and increase my awareness of the world around me. I read, meditate, study, and learn something every day.
2. I try to respond to that awareness in small ways every day
3. I have devoted this portion of my life to a profession that is low-medicore in pay, and is wildly unpopular, but serves some of the most important issues humanity faces (biomedical research and animal modeling)
4. I worked for 4 years with the US Peace Corps and follow-up work on development projects in Central America. I am learning all I can about sustainability and community development, and doing my best to put what I learn to good use in a real life setting. We are collaborating for strategeies to tackle big social issues in a select, small area: economic sustainabilty, environmental maintenance, family planning and nutrition, and animal welfare.
5. I reach out as a mentor... to adults who wish to learn skills I can teach, to children, and even to strangers
6. I have learned to ask hard questions, to be uncomfortable, and to never give up on dreams.

I plan to make great music in the future. Music that will make people feel happy or whatever emotion they want to be feeling.
What are you doing or hoping of doing?

It is nice to be important, but it is more important to be nice. So I dont need to make a difference or reach the top, but I'm trying to be a nice person.
It sounds simple, but it isn't and I don't always succeed :)

I work at a non-profit organization to help low-income women, abused women, homeless women and to erase racism. I am on the racial justice committee and the advocacy committee trying to help get laws that would help women and erase racism and domestic violence.
By the way, it is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Please get the facts about your state's domestic violence programs and take action.
